Constructing Thomas

Zachary wanted a Thomas the Tank Engine party and a 3-D Thomas cake. I’m always up for a cake challenge, so I used an online tutorial (Thomas Cake) to accomplish this feat. Zach loved it and it was actually fun to do, and not as time-consuming or difficult as I thought it might be.

Sculpting the face

Zachary had to help with the face, telling me it didn’t look “really so very good,” showing me how to make the face more round and the cheeks less puffy. He was right!

Thomas' Construction

I enlisted Jason’s help to assemble the four layers…

…and to help cut and sculpt. He’s much better at that than me.

Then I just frosted the thing like crazy. I love the frosting recipes my friend, Jessica, gave me a couple years ago. A good recipe makes it all work better.

Happy Zach

Zachary was pleased!

Candle Time

We had family over to share. The boys even ate the face (sculpted from fondant). Wish I got a picture of that, and the destruction.
